When you’re in shallow water, like the Missouri River, Scout mode on your Lowrance Active Target is hands down the best tool you can use. It provides about a 160 degree angle view and is very clear – but the key is to be in shallow water.
Forward mode isn’t the best for shallow water, but is still very useful in other situations. In shallow water, you can see that the cone angle on this mode is very narrow so you have to be really spot on to catch any fish you mark with this view. Once you get into deeper water, that’s where Forward mode shines and Downward mode as well especially when you’re vertical jigging or hanging out in 40-50 feet of water.
