Kade Lynch and Tanner Ouellette from AquaTraction explain how to use Scout Mode Forward Facing Sonar to find and catch a specific fish.

On the Missouri River, a lot of walleye relate to sand bars.   Side imaging is often the fastest way to cover and eliminate water to ultimately find these fish. However, its often best used in conjuntion with forward facing sonar. The key to the best success? Use two if you have them.

After initially locating fish on side scan, drop the trolling motor and set the Lowrance Active Target to Scout Mode. Working back to the spot where the fish were located on side side scan, try to locate the fish again on the forward facing sonar off the bow trolling motor.  Once found, spot-lock.

Once spot-locked, the use-fullness of the forward facing sonar diminishes  on the bow mount trolling motor because it essentially points in one direction, up-current or upwind.

The key then is to run a second pole-mounted ActiveTarget independent from the trolling motor and pan the transducer toward the fish. Where you find them is where you cast.
