Mark Courts shares his 2D sonar settings for getting the best image out of his Humminbird units.
Units from most of the majors brands are setup to run properly right out of the box. However, there are a couple minor adjustments Mark likes to make to get the best picture out of his 2D sonar. This includes adjusting his Humminbird 2D SwitchFire settings and his Sensitivity settings.
However, his first tip is that every lake is not the same, so it’s important to set these settings based on the individual lake.
Next let’s talk about his 2D SwitchFire settings. There are two different modes: clear mode and max mode.
Clear mode filters out a lot of the zooplankton, algae, and other things that cause noise. However, Max mode allows for more detail, but identifies everything going on below the surface. This extra detail is why Mark prefers to keep his 2D SwitchFire settings on Max mode.
Next adjust the sensitivity. By manually adjusting his sensitivity, he can get more out of his picture. For example, Mark likes to adjust his sensitivity to see bait fish because he knows that’s where the fish are going to be. The sensitivity should also be adjusted based on the lake’s water clarity, which includes factors such as shrimp, zooplankton, or algae blooms for example. Adjust it up or down until there is a clear enough picture without compromising the factors you want to see.
To find the SwitchFire settings hit the menu settings twice and then go to the sonar tab. To adjust the Sensitivity settings hit the menu button once and scroll down to sensitivity.
