Rod holders provide a hands-free fishing solution, ideal for trolling, anchoring, or effortlessly securing your rod. One popular standout choice is the RAM Mounts product line, which can be mounted on Lund’s SportTrak system with just a few simple modifications.
Lund offers a Qwik-Clip Flat Bracket for their SportTrak that’s perfect for mounting a RAM Mounts Rod Bulkhead Spline Post Base onto. Modification of the Qwik-Clip Bracket is required, but it’s pretty straightforward. In this video, Virtual Angling’s McKeon Roberts guides viewers through selecting the proper hardware and installing a RAM Mounts rod holder system on the SportTrak of his 1650 Lund Rebel XL Tiller.
The Qwik-Clip Flat Bracket allow versatile mounting as it comes free of any pre-drilled holes, but careful drilling is required to suit your gear. Neither the brackets nor the rod holders include hardware, so one option to consider that Roberts uses is detailed below.
Installation Hardware:
- 1-inch, 5/32 hex-head alloy bolts with 1/4-20 threads (Quantity: 4 bolts)
- 7/16 nylon locking nut (Quantity: 4 nuts)
Using the pre-drilled holes in the post base as a stencil, mark and drill the mounting holes with a 1/4-inch drill bit into the Qwik-Clip bracket. Then, simply attach the post base to the Qwik-Clip bracket with the bolts tightening the nylon nuts with care as not to over-tighten and strip them out.
Once assembled, the system slides effortlessly along the SportTrak, and the RAM Rod Holder allows for fully adjustable rod positioning at various angles. Perfect for trolling musky, walleye, trout, salmon, or anchored setups for catfish, this setup provides a secure, adaptable base for diverse fishing scenarios.
