With the recent cold snap we had up here in Devils Lake, it has definitely bought us some breathing room with the slush conditions. I do know it’s only a temporary solution to what I’m guessing will be an early exit from ice fishing. Especially once the days start getting longer and the sun penetrates longer. The nice part for now is we have less slush to deal with.
For me guiding right now, I’ve been chasing primarily walleyes. Nothing fancy about it. Find some good old fashion structure like old shoreline or humps and fish it hard during low light. A mix of forage minnows and buckshot spoons tipped with minnows seem to work day in and day out.
There is a decent perch bite out east on Devils in the basin also. Tungsten tipped with 3 wax worms in 35 plus foot of water has been catching those roaming perch.
Tracks of some sort is still the only way to get around unless you stay on the few plowed roads near the 3 major resorts on the lake.
