There are different ways you can set up your forward facing sonar, most often people mount their transducer on their trolling motor. However, it ends up always facing upwind or up-current when you’re in auto-pilot and you can’t use it to pan.
By mounting your forward-facing sonar off the side of the boat, you can be in auto-pilot or anchor mode and still pan independently. I like to run mine on a Brew City arm and wherever the arrow is pointing is the direction the transducer is pointing so you can slowly pan around while in anchor mode. When looking for crappies, they’ll show up very clearly suspended off the bottom. Once you spot them on the graph, look at the direction the arrow is pointing on the mount and that’s the direction you need to cast.
