In this tip, Max Wilson shares his favorite tip up accessory: BlueTipz.

BlueTipz is a transmitter device for a tip-up. It mounts directly to your tip-up flag and lights up when you get a bite. It sends a notification directly to your phone via a Bluetooth connection. If you have multiple transmitters out, it will tell you exactly which one it is so you know exactly which flag to run to. Through the associated app, you can also keep a log of all of your flags. This allows you to go back and start to look for patterns and determine when the major and minor bite windows are occurring.

When you are shack fishing and can’t see your tip up out the window, this notification can help you get to your tip up much faster. If you get a pike, it helps keep your line from spooling out. Even with walleye, if you take too long to get to the tip up, they can suck the bait all the way down the back of their throat which can make practicing catch and release tough. Therefore not only does this reduce wasted time getting to a flag or just checking flags, but it also allows you to fish more comfortably. Another added bonus is that you can get that tip up out a little farther or place it somewhere out of sight from your shack windows, and you’ll know for sure when you do have a flag. Half the fun of tip up fishing is the chaos and excitement of the whole experience, and while you might not have to sit and stare at your flags, you’ll still get that same energy when the notification goes off on your phone from the comfort of your warm shack.
