Caleb Wistad (@hookedupwi) shares a few essential products that help make his remote set lines more efficient by eliminating two major issues: freeze up and communication. In this example, Wistad is using the JawJacker setup but these products will work with any other set line including iFishPros and Tip-Downs.

The biggest issue with set lines is freeze up. To keep the top of the hole from freezing up, Wistad attaches a Cold Nation Outdoors Ice Defense unit to his JawJacker with a lithium battery. This will keep the water circulating and prevent it from freezing over all day long without ever needing to clear the hole. No other maintenance required.

The second issue with running set lines, especially JawJackers, is that they need to be grabbed right away if a fish hits, therefore it’s important to watch them really closely. However this isn’t always easy when fishing from a portable shack. To know exactly when when lines get hit without having to keep a close eye on them, rig up Vulture Systems sensors to the lines to get a notification on a handheld receiver (or a smartphone depending on the model) when a fish hits.

With these two tools, you can literally walk away from your set lines and the only thing you have to do all day long is occasionally check your minnow. Be sure to check out both of these tools to make your day more efficient on the ice.
