- What have you been catching the last few days?
Mostly targeting bass, but catching some bonus pike, walleye and even muskie. - What presentation(s) worked?
Moving baits and jigs. A lot of swim baits, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits… these seem to cover a lot of water and generate some reaction strikes. We’re also pitching/flipping jigs into thick weeds as well. Moderate retrieve on the moving baits, not quite “burning” anything but also not crawling the baits either. - What depth/structure?
We’ve been focusing on less than 10-feet of water, and as shallow as 3-feet. Water temps are dropping (and staying) in the 60s, so fish are moving shallower. Moving baits have excelled in 3-7 feet, and we’re flipping jigs in 6-10 feet it seems. Hard bottom spots continue to produce, mainly in and around weed flats and weed points. Also a good rule of thumb to pay attention to your electronics for any abnormal clumps of weeds… as they usually hold fish right now! - Provide your best tip for someone new to the lake
When moving shallower be prepared to fish a variety of structure-types. Meaning, if you’re planning to chuck and wind a chatterbait in 3-7 feet I would also have a jig tied on so you can pitching into the heavier weeds that a chatterbait can’t pull through. This helps you truly dissect a specific zone or area of the lake without leaving anything out. It also helps you determine exactly where the fish are holding and if a different pattern emerges.
