I’ve been fishing the Northwestern Wisconsin region and targeting primarily crappies, bluegills, bass and pike. The bite has slowed some since the last cold front blew through but I’m still catching fish. Pike have been coming on smaller sucker minnows on set lines as well as a few on small rattle baits like the 1/8 oz Eurotackle Z-Viber. For the most part panfish have backed off of the aggressive presentations and using small tungsten jigs and live bait has been almost necessary to get consistent action.
Pike and bass have been hanging around weed beds with small panfish in them. I have found most of my panfish suspended and roaming deep basins (up to 40′). Most of the larger bluegills and crappies I have found have been in smaller packs or singles as opposed to the large schools, which are primarily made up of smaller fish.
