Fishing on Mille Lacs has started to pick up a bit with the cooler weather we are seeing. The numerous weather fronts have added some hot pre storm bites as well. We are still mostly fishing the edges of reefs and mud flats, finding most fish in the 26-30 ft of water range. Trolling Lindy Rigs with leeches and crawler harnesses at those depths has produced good numbers of fish.
With this cool weather there is talk of a shallow bite starting to warm up a bit recently. Don’t be afraid to pull crawler harnesses through the tops of shallow-mid depth weed edges this time of year also. Bonus smallmouth are usually caught using these techniques as well.
