This week brought us to Devils Lake North Dakota where we focused on the main lake body of water. We concentrated on areas such as the Casino, Military Point, and Grahams Island.
Focusing on points and rocky areas were important structure areas, but the fish also were found in specific depths. Walleye seemed to hang out in shallower depths under 32 FOW and the jumbo perch were found in 32-40 FOW.
The Perch are finicky. They have seen several presentations, the lake is full of freshwater shrimp, and they get lots of pressure. The small PK Predator Tungsten modified with a drop chain and single hook tipped with a perch eye was our most successful presentation. Gold and White colors work very well on this lake. Other presentations such as tipping with wax worm or a smaller minnow hooked through back tail also did well.
When the walleye came through they did not pass on the PK Predator Tungsten with drop chain tipped with a minnow. They were on the move and looking to get fed.
Running a PK Ridge Rattl’r in a separate hole brought fish in and held their interest. The perch were not aggressive enough to attack the Ridge Rattl’r but it kept them around long enough for our other presentations to get a chance to work.
