When it comes to trolling crankbaits on leadcore, one of the biggest benefits is that you can simply use a lot of different baits. You can run these crankbaits at any depth you want depending on how much leadcore you put out.
Often times however, it’s best to run smaller baits. This is because often times the fish are over deep mudflats, eating a lot of bugs or insect larvae, therefore these fish are often times full of food. That’s why come midsummer in the peak of the ecosystem, these fish are already full, so you just want to give them a little snack, or simply one more bite. That’s where running smaller baits come in.
One of these small baits are a number five Rumble Shad. This is a small bait that if you’re just trolling this long line with mono or braid, you might be able to get this bait down to 8 feet, but with a leadcore you can troll this at 25 feet. At this depth you can put this little snack in front of fish in 25 feet of water, and it’s a deal where you just hang on and reel them in.

I’m getting older and forget many of the different presentations available to use, especially this time of year. I really appreciate the refresher tips. Late Sept. and Oct. are golden, your segments really help the shine. You guys are the best!!!
