On Devils Lake, you can encounter a mixed bag of species on any given day. Jason Mitchell explains that his go-to lures for Devils are oversized tungsten jigs and small spoons when fishing anywhere from 8 to 24 feet of water. For the tungsten jigs, choose larger profiles that have a wide hook gap like the Clam Drop XXL. This extra size and space allows you to fit on multiple wax worms, a perch eye, or a minnow head with ease and simply hooks up better with crappies, jumbo perch, and walleye. For spoons, choose small compact profiles that drop straight down and fall in a straight line such as your smaller Rattlin’ PT Spoons and Pinhead Pro. With stained water, best colors to reach for include glow or bright colors like chartreuse and sometimes gold for some flash.
