Caleb Wistad (Hookedupwi) loves to fish big swimbaits deep. In this tip, he shares how he rigs this presentation for a weedless approach when targeting fish in deep, heavy cover.

When fishing regular swimbaits in weeds, it can be challenging to get large jigs through the heavy cover. That’s where using a weedless swimbait rig comes in. Swimbait hooks usually come with a screw lock head and a weighted keel weight on the hook shank. However, they generally only go up to a 1/4 oz which is not enough weight to get the bait down to where Caleb wants it, which is typically in that 10-15 ft zone.

To remedy this, Caleb adds a worm weight on his line to ride ahead of the hook before tying on the swimbait jig. This allows him to add enough weight to slow roll it over 15 foot weed beds in clear water. This setup allows for a more efficient presentation without hauling weeds in on every cast.
