The drop shot can be a hot presentation through the fall for several species. In this video, Caleb Wistad (hookedupwi) shares a quick tip on how he catches more fish in the evening by simply adjusting his drop shot setup.
As the evening falls, Caleb likes to extend the length of his drop shot lead as it gets dark. For example, if he’s using a 12″ lead off his drop shot, he’ll extend that to 18″, 24″, and even up to 3′ long as the sun sets.
This is because as the fish start to get more comfortable in the darkness, they begin to rise up off the bottom. This allows them to profile the bait against the surface better. So, when he’s drop shot fishing, Caleb likes to extend his lead in the evening to keep his bait above the fish longer, therefore triggering more evening bites and allowing him to extend that evening drop shot bite just a little bit longer.
