Twin Cities Metro, MN (March 30th, 2023)

This week we have been targeting metro crappie, bluegill, and perch.

Jigs and plastics continue to be key, although we downsized a little with this recent cold front… back into winter as we end March with mornings in the single digits again!  The Clam Pro Tackle Drop Kick in sizes 12, 10 and 8 depending on activity level and the size of plastic needed.  We’ve seen some of the fish really shy away from the larger baits lately, so the size 12 jigs with smaller plastics have been working well.  That will change again after this next round of snow and the warm up again though!  We’ve used some maggots for the bluegills as well.  Also, the Clam Pro Tackle Half Ant Drop has been dynamite on the bluegills lately—in fact, it’s been dynamite on the bluegills all season!!

Still focusing on the shallow water areas.  The fish haven’t moved out, even with these colder temps, they’ve just changed their activity levels a hair.  So I’d say anywhere from 4-10 feet has been the focus, and around weeds if you can find them.  Seems to be holding the biting fish if you can find them around some type of cover.
