Twin Cities Metro, MN (March 21st, 2023)

Fishing in the metro has been fairly good this past week. Anywhere from 4-10 feet has been good, although we got on a solid bite in 13-15 feet as well… but relatively shallow in general lately.  Late ice is trying to show its face!

Mostly crappies and bluegills, but some nice perch mixed in as well! Larger tungsten jigs and plastics have become the preferred presentation lately.  Size 8 Clam Pro Tackle Drop Kick jigs tipped with Maki Polli XL plastics or Jamei XL plastics.  Larger profile, horizontal baits.  The Pinhead Pro jigging spoon is still catching fish, but as we move into the shallower areas it seems like the horizontal presentations are catching more and bigger fish.  Larger profiles are working well, too!

Right now, the biggest tip would be to not spend too much time at one hole.  Drop down, work your jigging sequence, maybe a couple pauses, and then move on!!
