Twin Cities Area, MN fishing report.
This past week we have had a nice mixed bag of everything. Bass (largemouth and smallmouth), walleye, pike, crappies and bluegills… a fun time of year!! For bass, we’ve been using both moving baits and wacky-rigs. Chatterbaits, swim jigs, swim baits… these have all been key for fan-casting and locating fish—or picking off the aggressive ones. All-Terrain Tackle Swim Jigs have been tied on a lot lately, and are easy to fish from 1-6 feet of water and amongst just about any sort of cover/structure. Then we’ve been leaning on the wacky-rig to seal the deal as well… an easy presentation for anglers of all skill levels to fish! Then for the walleyes we’ve been slow-retrieving Clam Drop TG (tungsten jigs) with a swim bait… easy approach on a spinning rod setup and very effective.
We’ve been focusing on shallow water… both against the bank and shallow flats. 1-6 feet with a lot of fishing being done in 1-4 feet of water. For the walleye, we’ve seen them relating relatively shallow as well, so like 6-12 feet has been the focus for the ‘eyes. Right now I would say there is no such thing as “too shallow” lately… the fish are moving way up (especially the bass). So don’t be afraid to literally hug the bank to catch fish!!
