This week we have mostly been targeting bass, but some pike have been joining the party occasionally as well.
We’ve been leaning on a combination of things. Several options have been working to be honest. Moving baits… like chatterbaits, swim jigs and swimbaits are all catching fish. We’ve also caught a lot of fish pitching jigs around cover… almost like a “summer pattern” already. And then of course the infamous wacky rig continues to get bit and produce a lot of fish. The ned rig starting kicking out fish, too… so a lot is happening as we move through this post spawn transition!
Seems like 3-8 feet has been producing the bigger bites, but we’re catching fish as deep as 15 feet already. The warm weather has then progressing quickly and making moves into their summer patterns. We’ll be targeting outside weed lines as part of the pattern in upcoming trips. Don’t be afraid to fish the junk, meaning, don’t be afraid to pitch into thick weeds, or algae. We’ve seen big fish come out of it!
