Captain Kyle Tokarski from Green Bay with this week’s fishing report.
The past few days in Sturgeon Bay, we have experienced a different change of pace. We went from targeting trophy walleyes to pre-spawn smallmouth bass. The bite is on fire, with lots of big fish. We haven’t seen crazy numbers yet, but the size makes up for it. Bonus big walleyes have been mixed in.
We’ve been fishing mainly shoreline structures, either rocks or sand. You typically want to look for the warmest water you can find. I’ve seen it in the upper 40s for water temp.
I’ve found the best baits to throw have been hair jigs and jerk baits on those windy days. I’ve been finding fish from 3 to 10 feet of water and you’ll have to cover a lot of ground to find them.
