Water temps were very high on some of the smaller lakes last week shutting down musky fishing for a few days. 80 degrees isn’t safe for good catch and release practices. With lots of lakes in the area, the bigger deep basin lakes held in at around 75. Muskies were active in basin lakes around schools of ciscoes. People power sniping were doing well, burning fuel, and adding lots of hours to their engines. The old school anglers were casting basins around bait and working weed edges looking for the surprise bite. A mix of red October tubes, musky innovations bulldawgs, and Bondy orba’s were working on the open water fish while a mix of blades and Suicks in the weeds.
Walleye bite is average on deep lakes on gravel and sand flats. Jig and crawlers/ leeches are getting the play there. Some of the smaller lakes that have bloomed up are are seeing shallow weed edge bites on the walleyes with a mix of live bait, Kietech plastics, and shiver minnows.
Crappies are set up on deep weed edges and windy days seem to be active over calmer days. Kalins crappies scrubs is all I need.
