Fishing has been stellar for big catfish all summer, but a recent storm and subsequent cold front have made the fish a little funky. They seem to be playing with the baits a lot before committing, so you have to be a little patient. That being said, give each spot up to 20 minutes, then move. Frogs are beginning to migrate, so they have been the bait of choice in the mornings, but as the day goes on, switch to 1-3 day old suckers packed in ice for bait. Find a 10 or so inch sucker and cut them into 1-inch chunks discarding the tail section. Fast, narrow main lake channels, log jams, and bends are classic spots that have been holding the fish. For a rig, run 30-pound hi-vis mono to a 4-ounce sinker, swivel, and then short 12-inch leader to a 5-7/0 Berkley Fusion19 Circle hook.
The water remains unseasonably high, so getting around has been easy.
