Mississippi River Pool 4 fishing report
The last week sure has been a blast out here on the Mississippi. The weather has been beautiful and the fish are hungry.
The Walleye and Sauger bite is in full swing. We currently are sitting around 38-40 degree water temps. Current presentations have been vertical jigging, dragging jigs and Miller rigs. No live bait gets used by me this time of year for Walleye and Sauger. I strictly use plastics and it has worked well for me for many years. Berkley plastics have become my go to the last few years now. The curly bones, bonefish and the newly redesigned ribworm my favorites. Each day the colors have been a little different depending on sun or cloud cover. White ice, greens and even purples have been doing well. Water conditions are stable as there is no snow for runoff. The water is stained and there is 1-3 foot of clarity. I haven’t seen any new fish coming out of Lake Pepin yet towards Red Wing. There is just a good amount of fish in the upper pool area. Also pool 5 up towards the dam area is kicking out good numbers of Perch and a few scattered Walleye. Small jigs and drop shots for the Perch fished vertical.
