Lake Oahe, ND (May 8th, 2023)

We focus closer to home as winter has lifted in the area and we can now enjoy open water season on the Missouri River where we focus from Cannonball to Langlier Bay also known as the northern portion of Lake Oahe. Recent increase of water due to snow melt has made most boat ramps useable.  Hazelton, Beaver Bay, Rivery, and Langlier boat ramps are all open and in good shape.

Water clarity is very dirty and often resembles chocolate milk.  We focus on back water shallow areas where fish tend to stage post spawn. Pitching jigs with plastic or tipped with a minnow and stinger hook such as the PK Spin A Jig was our preferred technique while pitching crankbait and lipless cranks (PK Ridge Rattl’r in Chrome Blue) also produced our biggest fish.

Fishing will only get better as water clarity improves.  Warming weather will transition fish into a live bait bite in next couple weeks.
