The fishing on the Missouri River around Bismarck remains slow. There have been a few fish caught but not many and odds are if you go out there is a good chance that you won’t even get a bite. In 35 years of fishing the river I’ve never experienced anything like this. It’s not that the fish aren’t biting, they just aren’t here. I don’t have an explanation for it except that maybe the fish just haven’t moved up yet or they are all up in the small rivers and creeks that feed the river. I still think we will get a good bite just no idea when.
The weather looks good the next 15 days and that should help get the fish past the spawn. Water clarity is very good upstream of the Heart river but still pretty dirty downstream. Every day it gets a little better and it should get back to normal in a few days. Water temps are in the low 40s now and with the warmer weather coming it will warm quickly. I will report again as soon as fishing picks up.
