Fall patterns are starting to show themselves even though the weather is still fairly warm out. Water temps were around 68°, but now have come back up a little the last few days to around 72 again. Fishing was better when it was below 70. It looks like after today the temps are going to start to drop again.
The Walleye and Sauger bite has started to get good finally after a long dry spell. Mainly just eater sized fish so far. Trolling leadcore on breaklines in Lake Pepin have put plenty of fish in the boat. Berkley flicker shads in #7 seem to be the best producer. Color depends greatly on the day. It depends on if it’s sunny or cloudy. Casting jigs and crawlers to rock shorelines with steep breaks have worked well for a mixed bag of Walleye, perch and bluegill. 1/16th to a 1/8th oz jig. Blue, gold, green all have worked well. Some fish are starting to move back up on the wing dams. Some casting cranks, jigs and bait is getting Bluegill and Walleye. We need some cooler weather to really crank up the fall bite, but there are plenty of fish to be caught.
