Pool 4 Mississippi River
Fall fishing is in full swing despite the warmer weather and water temps.
Water temp still is around 72° That should be dropping with the cool down coming. We finally got some much need rain and it has brought the water level up a couple feet. Which is very welcomed.
Walleye and Sauger fishing is getting better daily. I have been fishing Wabasha to Red Wing. Mainly pulling crankbaits. Berkley #5 and #7 flicker shads. Natural colors on cloudy days and chromed colors on sunny days. Berkley #9 flicker minnows in similar colors have been working well also. Trolled with leadcore and long line Berkley fireline. Leadcore on deeper breaks and fireline on the shallower ones or on the channel edges. Speed is anywhere from 1.7 in the current to 2.7 on the Lake Pepin. There doesn’t seem to be any Walleyes on the shorelines currently. It will happen soon though.
The Bluegill and Crappie bite has been real good. Rock shorelines, submerged wood and weedlines are holding great fish. Also there are fish holding on the wing dams. Small jigs pitched with plastics or a small jig under a bobber tipped with a small piece of crawler.
