Mississippi River, Pool 4, MN (August 8th, 2023)

Week of August 7th Mississippi River Pool 4/Lake Pepin fishing report.

After these hot days this past week water temperatures got up to almost the mid 80’s. The walleye and sauger fishing has slowed due to this temp spike. Fish can be found on Lake Pepin fishing deep breaklines trolling leadcore. The deeper side and even off into the basin is holding fish. #7 and #9 Berkley flicker shads trolled at 2.5-3 mph. I have also found some fish shallow 10-12 trolling spinners with crawlers. Mainly walleyes. Nothing big, but eaters.  Wing dams are holding fish as well.

Live bait on a slip sinker rig. (Leeches, Crawlers and Willow Cats) The bluegill bite is firing up as well. They can be found on wing dams pitching small jigs and a piece of crawler. Weedlines and also any type of wood are holding them. Small bobbers with a small jig with either a plastic or a piece of crawler is working. With some cooler days in the forecast the bite should start picking back up.
