The mud flats have been very productive but one day a flat will be loaded and the next it may be barren so you may have to move around until you find them. Bobber and a half of a crawler has been my most productive tactic but rigging a leech or crawler on a long snell has been good as well.
The smallmouth have gotten a little tougher to catch. Targeting big boulders in 8-20 feet of water with Ned’s and drop shots have been working well. You can still catch them throwing marabou jigs as well some days.
Fishing Report for Central MN.:
The walleye fishing has been great this season. I’m still seeing a lot of fish on the weed lines anywhere from 12-20 feet of water depending on the lake. I’ve also been spending a lot of time fishing suspended fish in the basin utilizing my Live scope and casting a jig and a crawler or a bobber/crawler bobber/leech. A lot of these fish I’m finding in 30+ feet of water but most are less than 20 feet down and at times are only 10 feet down so don’t over look the high marks you are seeing. The crappies have been on the weed edges as well. Mostly in that 10-15 feet of water range. Trolling a 1/16 ounce jig with a minnow or a plastic at 1-1.3 mph has been very productive.
