Water Temp 70 Degrees
We’re finally seeing some cooler mornings (in fact, we had a couple days in the 40s this past week to start things off!), and the fish are slowly changing their locations. We’re still catching plenty of fish on the weed lines and in their “summer patterns” but we’re also seeing some shallower movements. Water temps are dipping slightly, and we expect to see that continue during the rest of open water.
BASS:
The bass fishing has been consistent for largemouths… focusing on the weeds, weed lines, and docks, and it seems like just about everywhere you can find some green bass. Catching them on jig worms, Ned rigs, chatterbaits, wacky rigs… you get it… they are biting! Probably the most consistent option right now in our area.
Then, for smallmouth bass, we definitely see a shallower push. They are moving up to the shallow edges of the flats and up on top of the flats in 3-6 feet of water. Key depths for the brown bass seem to be 3-10 feet… where the 3-6 foot range is definitely relating to rock or hard bottom. Mini max chatterbaits, Ned rigs, and smaller swim baits seem to be working well. These fish are also schooling up, so you’ll probably catch more than one!!
WALLEYE:
For walleyes, we’re still finding them on the edges and relating to the weed line… they are grouped up as well. Catching them on jigs and small swim baits. Although, we’ve caught a handful of chatterbaits as well on top of the shallow flats, so they are up chasing the bait, too!!
