The stable weather pattern has the fish more active this week as we visited Alkaline Lake North of Napoleon ND. Lots of snow on the lake make travel difficult unless you have a tracked vehicle.
This lake has lots of structure and a submerged roadbed which are keys areas to work. Early morning and evening seem to be the best bite window but you will catch a fish or two during the mid afternoon.
We spent our time targeting Walleye but this lake also has several nice perch that have been caught over 14-15 inches in recent years. The average fish caught was 17 inches but expect fish to range from 14-24 inches which is common for this body of water.
Our presentation included a variety of lures and colors. The green PK Rattle Spoon in 1/4oz caught the most fish but other lures like the 1/8oz PK Spoon Red Dot Glow Nickel back and the 1/4oz Bloody Clown Ridge Rattl’r also received lots of attention from the walleye.
