The true fall bite will be arriving by the weekend, current water temps are 64 to 66 until today. Heavy winds and cold temps are going to drive cool air deeper into the water column and the surface temps are going to drop. That means active fish will be more present on the structure and shallow flats. Walleye and perch can be found together on shallow sand grass flats, cabbage beds and on the outside of milfoil beds. Crappies will also be found on the deep weed edges adjacent to deep water. Focusing on the northern weed bays will present ample opportunities so catch fish all around.
The warm weather has made musky fishing pretty tough. Most bites have been coming at first dark and the windows have been very short. The fish are also pulling on and off of structure very frequently. So don’t count a spot out, it could fill up with fish at any moment. The windows are short so make the most of them! Slower baits seem to be working best like whale tails, dive and ride baits and twitch baits.
