WALLEYE:
As of late, the hot weather has had fish moving around quite a bit. Some fish are being caught on main lake humps in 12-24ft lindy rigging a crawler, but you have to run a lot of humps to stay on fish, and they tend to run on the smaller side.
The best overall technique has been trolling #5 Berkley Flicker shads over mudflats in 23-28 feet with lead core at 2 mph-2.4 mph. The bite, overall, has been better on the slower side of this spectrum.
The trick is getting down to the mud, so the lead core is necessary.
Run out four colors of lead core (approximately 150ft line) with a 15-foot monofilament leader. Tie a double surgeon knot from the lead core to the mono to avoid running a swivel through the rod’s eyes with a long leader.
