Week #7 of the open water season! June 25- July 1, 2024
Water temps: 66-72
We saw another tough week of fishing on the Big V this week! But, there’s light at the end of the tunnel as the bugs are less numerous than they were last week! It won’t be long before things are back to normal.
Last week we focused on deeper edges of rock piles that had fewer bugs around them. It seemed these fish were more willing to bite than any other location. We used slip bobbers and leeches in 12-20’ off the edge of wind blown rock piles. Casting up wind and letting it slowly drift in front of them is the best way to get a bite. These fish are stuffed to the gills with bugs so they are super lazy and don’t want to chase after their food. There are a lot of fish in these locations but only a few want to bite!
Right now the name of the game is moving spots and putting your bait in front of as many fish as possible. Picking off one eater here and there is very common so don’t get discouraged only catching a couple fish in each spot. It is common to only get one fish in most spots.
As always this time of year, tons of smallies are mixed in on these rock piles and points. A slip bobber and a leech is a fantastic option, but soft plastics and top water baits can provide endless fun!
I have availability remaining for the rest of the summer! Give me a call or text @ (218) 404-9200 to book your trip today!!
