The bite on the south shore of Lake of The Woods has been good as a lot of the bait in the system has been slowly migrating towards the mouth of the Rainy River. Fishing has been concentrated in 15-18 feet of water, but any area from the gap out to 28 feet has seen good fish activity. Hop a 3/8 jig and frozen shiner along the bottom for numbers and occasional trophies. Sharp shooting individuals with forward-facing sonar will put you on big fish faster.
Once you find fish, anchor up and stay put as areas holding fish will re-load frequently throughout the day. Keep in mind these fish can be tight to the bottom, so if you see a few fish on your electronics, you’d be surprised how many more are actually in the area.
