WALLEYE:
The fishing has gotten tough for walleye lately. The late summer lull is right on cue while the water cools and the fish have migrated north and headed toward the ND state line. Another wave will come with the cooling water, so stay tuned!
CATFISH:
While the walleye are slow, another great opportunity exists to catch piles of fish. A rather sneaky bite exists on big flats or humps of the river channel in 40-60 feet. Cruise these areas until you start marking fish; they’ll be unmistakable by appearing in large schools. Anchor up near the schools and simply fish a 1/2 ounce jig head with a balled crawler jigged or set on bottom. As you catch them, they get more fired up, so it can be constant hook sets and good clean cats coming from deep water.
