Catching several walleye from 14-17 inches with occasional Crappie and Jumbo Perch averaging 12” in length.
Water levels are very low with lots of current near Beaver Bay making this area very unsafe and we do not recommend anyone to attempt to fish this area. Currents stabilize around Cattail Bay and areas further south. Ice conditions are good with minimal pressure ridges. Near 1-2 feet of hard packed snow on the ice. Tracks are recommended for traveling. Permanent ice houses are out at Cattail Bay, Langlier Bay, Meyer Bay, and Pollock Bay. Walleye are scattered throughout the system but we concentrate on structure where the main river channel has greater depth changes or areas when creek channels meet the main river channel. Several walleye caught in 8-10 FOW on top of the creek channel along with fish being caught in 18-24 FOW on or near the bottom of the channel break.
Lure presentation is 1/8oz to 1/4oz lures like the PK Predator or PK Rattle Spoon. Rattle baits such as the PK Ridge Rattl’r in 1/4 or 1/2oz is also a great choice Tipping lures with a minnow head or full minnow. Glow colors in the morning and evening during low light hours then switching to metal colors during high sunlight times during the day.
Bigger fish are thought to be staged further south of Mobridge and will start making the annual migration north near Bismarck in the next month. Current water level conditions might play a factor on where the fish end up but the bigger fish could show up at anytime.
