Cooler fall days are allowing us to find active walleye further into mid-day, sometimes all day through. This makes for less hustle and bustle back and forth to shore and also allows you to leisurely take in a full day of fishing. 10-20 ft near rock and weed areas will focus walleye as they are searching for prey in these areas. Spinner rigs and cranks will still catch fish, but jigs with suckers and plastics will work well this time of year also.
Smallmouth are following the yellow perch & other small fish, migrating to the lake edges. At this time of year, you can find smallmouth bass at depths of 3 to 10 feet as they follow their prey. Jigs, Ned Rigs, Dropshots, and as it gets cooler, jerkbaits and swimbaits should get the job done. Knowing this migration means you can tailor your fall boating route to just the right habitat for better chances at reeling in your favorite catch.
