Dax Szegda here from Chetek WI and this week’s report comes from the Hayward area.
The basin crappie have been biting along with some weed walleye and panfish. Tip ups set along the weed edges for sunset walleye have been yielding results. Spend time drilling lots of holes to chase the basin crappie or finding pockets in the weeds to catch some nice weed panfish. The depth ranges anywhere from 5-8 ft for the weed beds, 7-10 ft for the weed edges and the basin is anywhere from 20-40 ft of water with live bait, spoons and tungsten jigs being the best baits lately.
Best tip for trying a new lake are to use the resources available like a local bait shop, an area fishing guide or some mapping software to look at. Drilling holes and moving around until you find some good fish to catch.
