Fishing some smaller lakes in the Hackensack area chasing panfish getting ready for the fall bite. Been finding some nice crappies and gills fishing in 8-12 feet of water on the weed edges. Using my Lowrance Active target makes it easier finding the weed edges and fish mixed in within the weeds.
Going back to the basic plain hook line sinker under a bobber tipped with a minnow has been catching fish. Another good set up has been a pink/white 1/32 oz. Northland Fire Fly tipped with maggots under a bobber. Set you bobber 2-4 feet off the bottom cast it out and reel it back slowly pausing occasionally.
If you like casting try a 1/16 oz. white Mister twister over the top of the weeds.
The fall perch bite should be starting up on Leech lake soon as the water temps start to drop. Stay tuned for that upcoming fall bite.
