Fishing the Hackensack area and we definitely need the snow to melt down to get the fish fired up. I had 28 inches of ice and 12 plus inches of snow (Hard to believe but it is still like mid-winter in this area). I have been catching some gills and crappies but the fish have been a little negative and running a little smaller.
I am starting to worry about low oxygen levels in some of these smaller lakes in this area.
I am finding more slush on the lakes after the new batch of snow we received which it is making hard to travel around. Snowmobiles are my means of travel right now.
The crappies and gills I have been catching are in 12-15-feet of water on the edge of the weed lines. CPT #10 wonder bread colored or a red glow Drop Kick jig tipped with 3-4 mixed colored Euro larvae is the ticket. 1/32 oz Red Glow Pinhead Mino with 2-3 mixed colored Eura larvae on each hook are getting quality bites as well.
Stay safe and happy fishing.
