Hackensack Area + Red Lake, MN (January 4th, 2023)

Fishing around the Hackensack area finding 11-14 inches of ice. Slush has been an issue with all the snow on the lakes. I am finding the crappies and gills swimming together in 20-22 feet of water just roaming not holding to any structure. Using Lowrance Active target is key to finding and staying on the fish. CPT #10 Wonderbread colored Drop Kick jig tipped with 3-4 mixed colored Euro larvae is the ticket and a 1/32 oz Gold Holo Pinhead Pro Mino with 2 Eura larvae on each hook.

We also fished on Red Lake and the key to catching walleyes on Red is to get away from the crowd. We fished in 12 Feet of water using the Glow Red Leech Flutter Spoon with a whole minnow. I would hit the spoon with my flashlight to glow it up and the fish would show up. We fished out of Hillman’s Resort; they have good roads plowed with spots for you to park your own houses.

Stay safe and make sure to check your ice before heading out.
