Smallmouth fishing has been good in Upper Door County while Sturgeon Bay has been tough.
Alewife are departing the bay and headed to the main lake, which has picked up the walleye bite.
Marinette has been the focus of some of the better walleye fishing, and casting has still been king with hair jigs, shiver minnows, and jigging spoons in 6-10ft. Water temps in the lower bay are near 70, and Sturgeon Bay and the Upper Door County area are still in the 60s, but these temps fluctuate with wind. The deep mud bite is picking up, and anglers are seeing success running a crawler harness out there. If you’re looking to troll for walleye, focus on the shallow reefs with Flick’r shads.
Musky are showing up in the weeds on the west shore and can be caught using bucktails or swimbaits.
Lots of wind and rain have been good for the water table, and now the weather is stabilizing, so fishing should be good going into the end of the month.
