Deep, clear lakes in the Grand Rapids area, like Pokegama and Trout, are seeing a lot of fish out deeper in 25-30 feet. The quick rise in temperature seems to have pushed fish out a little further, and to catch these fish, running small creek chubs is the deal.
Lindy rig the chubs using a 1oz weight and #6 octopus hook. The smaller hook is good for getting hook penetration with a lot of line out in deeper water. For set-up, run 10 10-pound braid as a main line with a 10ft, 10-pound fluorocarbon leader to your weight and swivel, then run another 3ft of fluorocarbon to your hook for better sensitivity and abrasion resistance at greater depths.
This method is being used to catch many bonus pike and smallmouth, making for an active day on the water.
- Water temp 75 degrees
