SALMON:
The salmon are getting further along in their seasonal cycle, and we’re seeing more reaction bites rather than full-on feeding as an indicator. With the reaction, bite flies have been best with a shorter 20-inch leader behind a bigger 11-inch flasher. You want that shorter leader to put the fly right in front of their face when they get mad at the flasher. They’re still hanging in 30-70 feet and are pushing closer to the harbors in which they were stocked.
LAKE TROUT:
Trout are still sitting in 115-130 feet over deep flats between main lake points. 1-ounce jigs and 5-inch paddle tail swimbaits are still effective, but using more of a deadstick presentation of sitting 10-12 feet off the bottom and waiting to notice you before slowly reeling away from them has been the ticket, Sounds counter-intuitive but they haven’t liked the attic action as much lately.
WALLEYE:
The walleye bite has been quite good, and they are still hanging on to summer patterns. Running a full crawler on a slow death hook and bottom bouncers 16-20 feet is the best way to cover water and encounter nomadic schools.
