Devils Lake, ND (December 18th, 2022)

We are ahead on ice and finding 7-13 inches on much of the lake.  New snow accumulations are creating some slush but this cold in the forecast should firm things up soon.  Not many people driving pickups yet but we are driving side by sides and snowmobiles.  After this last snow, you pretty much need tracks for the time being.

There have been some good perch bites so far.  Good areas include the Stomme Addition, Woods Rutten Road, the Towers and East Devils Lake near the Cliffs.  Been finding perch in 20-32 feet of water depending on the area.  Focus on the secondary basins or the old shoreline contour on the soft bottom transition.  Small rattle spoons or tungsten jigs tipped with wax worms or a minnow head in glow, gold or pink have been working well.

Walleyes have been biting good on Alice and Irvine on the old shoreline in 4 feet of water.  Look for rock in that depth.  Aggressive jigging with rattle spoons or glide baits in glow or holographic colors.
