It is cold this morning!! 15 below in many places!! Should have been a good night for making ice. As always, extreme safety and caution is advised when going out right now. There are many places that have 10-12 inches of good ice; however, there are areas where it is a lot less. Avoid ridges, cracks, current areas. Drill your way out if it is your first time out. Remember to bring a rope, ice picks, life jackets, etc.
As for fishing. We officially start our season this Friday. We have been out fishing some and the bite has been fantastic. Perch are in shallower waters (15-25 ft) and they are feeding! We have had our best luck on Northland Buckshots, Snyders Pole Dancers, PK Spoons, and Slender Spoons tipped with a minnow head.. We have used a lot of bright colors and gold. Walleye action has been best early morning and later afternoons. Seems like you need to be aggressive to call them in and then slow it down and they smack it!
