Iowa Great Lakes Area Fishing Report We are finally getting some colder temperatures and starting to see ice developing but still a few days away from safe enough ice to venture out. I’m thinking we will see guys getting on the ice mid-week this next week and will be able to hit back bays, smaller shallower lakes. Look for laid down weed lines in 5 to 10′ of water to start and will find crappies, Gills, bass and pike.
We have a couple smaller lakes in the area that should be good for perch this year as well. Small tungsten tipped with plastics or wax worms will be key for panfishing, small spoons with wigglers or bigger tungsten with wigglers work great for perch. Lots of guys will put tip ups out with 4 to 6″ sucker chubs for pike. Once we hit the ice the fishing in the Okoboji area should be fantastic. Reminder for this year specially there is no such thing as safe ice ever and always use caution!! Hopefully we will have a more in-depth report next report!
