Chetek, WI (January 23rd, 2023)

Dax Szegda here reporting from Chetek WI which is about 40 minutes north of Eau Claire and an hour and 45 minutes from the metro area.

The bite has been really good for crappie, bluegill and perch on live bait and artificial plastics.

We always hit the ice with red or white spikes in our pockets and a variety of plastics from P3 plastics, Clam and Northland plastics.

The depths vary between species during the day but the sunrise and sunset bites have been good for all species from about 8-12 feet and there’s a solid basin bite from depths of 16-20 feet.

My best tip for checking new lakes or places to fish would be to use a guide or local bait shop to point you in the right direction. Ice reports and travel on ice reports are different every so safety is a number one concern so play it safe and get out there and catch a few.
